How to play Friday the 13th: The Game on PS4/PS5 in 2026

For almost a year after the "death" of Friday the 13th: The Game the private server for Playstation was running smoothly, but then some invidual decided to ruin everyone's fun by a DDoS attack. Since then some extra steps are needed to be able to play F13 on Playstation. You need to verify your IP.

1) Join the Discord to get access to Playstation server: https://discord.gg/resurrected-778943077724586065

2) Whitelist your IP: https://whitelist.f13-resurrected.com/

3) Donate to keep the servers (Playstation/Resurrected) running (optional)

Playstation servers were in danger of shutting down at the end of 2025, but thanks to donations this won't happen as long as the cost of the server is covered.

Friday the 13th: The Game is back online

This guide was last updated on August 10, 2025

Even if they shut the servers down, no matter what they do to you, you can’t die, you can never die.

Officially Friday the 13th: The Game stopped working at midnight EST on January 1, 2025. Since then it was only supposed to work offline, to be playable only as Jason against bots. But look what happened!

Friday the 13th the game: Can you still play?

Yes, you can.

We all thought it was the end. The end of Friday the 13th: The Game. But it wasn't. Thanks to the hardcore fans of this game. TPTB tried to pull the plug, but they couldn't. Like Jason Voorhees, Friday the 13th: The Game refused to die, and came back.

Many players are now actually buing a PS4/PS5 and a physical copy/disc of F13 to play it. In 2025! When the game was supposed to be dead.

Friday the 13th: The Game Fan Servers

Within two days of the game "dying" a private server was up on Playstation. Unfortunately the settings are different on Xbox, and it might be impossible to come up with a workaround for that console.

If you are getting database login failure on Playstation, you can fix it by changing the DNS settings. Here's a guide how to access the private server on PS4/PS5, and keep playing F13 online.

EDIT

This server no longer works. Here are some new numbers:

Can Playstation ban you if you use a private server?

I don't know. But you play at your own risk.

Here's a guide how to get the update to allow online play on PC. There are also some other ways (mods) to play this game on PC.

One of these mods is Resurrected. Here is a guide how to download and play it. You do NOT need to own F13 on PC/Steam to play Resurrected, we have tested this.

Where to buy Friday the 13th: The Game in 2025

There are still new physical copies of the game available on Amazon, but the PS4-discs are selling fast now, so you might need to hurry. So even though the game was delisted from digital storefronts at the end of 2023, it can still be bought. Not even the price has gone up yet, like some people predicted.

Breaking news: Camp Crystal Lake is NOT closed! So Jason can quit crying, and get back to killing innocent counselors!

Can you play Friday the 13th: The Game in 2025?

This post is updated with current info/links.

Is Friday the 13th: The Game dead?

For years some people had falsely claimed that this game is dead, and now it's finally true.

Friday the 13th: The Game came to an end officially on December 31, 2024. The exact time of death was at midnight EST. The game still worked for a few minutes after that, but then all the players in public lobbies and private matches were booted to the main menu, with database login failure. And this time this error is permanent.

The game died at 7 am my time, and I was lucky enough to see the end live on Twitch streams. Back then I didn't know when the game would stop working, I only learned about the announced time afterwards. How great that someone finally told us the time, but only 4 hours before the end.

Just before the death of Friday I saw a private match. All the counselors were around a camp fire, dancing and crying. And even Jason joined their fun. It was like a memorial service, or a wake. What a great way to send off this great game.

I thought that in the end I would cry, or even have a breakdown. Luckily I had been mentally preparing myself for months, saying my goodbyes to each counselor individually. I loved too many of them.

It's been heartbreaking and bittersweet to see that I'm not alone in my sorrow. That there are many others who loved this game as much as I did.

Wonder what all the kill squads, trolls, cheaters and teamers are doing now? Probably poisoning other games.

How to play Friday the 13th: The Game in 2025?

The online portion of the game is no longer officially playable on consoles. You can only play offline bots, single player challenges and the virtual cabin. And even in these you can only use Jasons part 3 and 5.

EDIT

Now there's also a way to play the game on PS4/PS5!

Guide: How to play Friday The 13th: Game after shutdown on Playstation 4 & 5

After just two days the game is back online on PC and PS4/PS5! Gotta love this community!

Do note that this private server might be down occasionally, and no one knows for how long this fun will last. There has been surprisingly many players (hundreds), and full lobbies.

Friday the 13th: The Game on PC in 2025

On PC there are some ways to play online matches, to enable quick play, private matches and matchmaking.

Try these at your own risk.

Then there's also a build called "Camp Forest Green", but it seems that a cease and desist is imminent. Don't ask me how to get this version.

So despite all the goodbyes and funerals, this game was dug up from its grave and hit by lightning, and lives on! Just like Jason.

Sequel to Friday the 13th: The Game?

Some people are dreaming of a sequel or a remastered version of the game, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

But exactly how much would it cost to keep the game online? We still don't know that, and probably never will. There are people who would be willing to pay to be able to play this game.

But there always was an option, to make the game truly p2p. To make the database that still was on servers local. But of course Gun Media didn't bother to pursue this option. I mean why would they? They haven't made any money from this game for a long time, while still having to pay for it.

RIP Friday the 13th: The Game 2017-2024

Was it a fun ride? Most of the time it was frustrating and enraging. So many people say they are grateful for the great people and friends they met through this game. It seems I only met assholes... Well, like someone said: Maybe assholes like each others, and become friends?

I played Friday the 13th: The Game for 6 years and thousands of hours, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt (affiliate link), and severe hatred for mankind.

Like someone on Reddit said: "This game helped me escape reality." Especially at the start of the COVID pandemic. And during these last horrible months, after all my 3 cats died within a short period of time. Now I have to face reality again: the cats are gone, and so is Friday. And I'll never be the same again.

Rest in peace my favorite game of all time, Friday the 13th: The Game. I'll miss you forever. Life is nothing without you.

And by the way, my Youtube-channel is full of videos of my very boring Friday the 13th gameplay.

After the break there are some more images related to the end of the best game ever.

How to host Friday the 13th game in 2024

I get commissions for purchases made through the links in this post, at no cost to you.

Since the dedicated servers of Friday the 13th: The Game were closed, the game has been played on P2P matchmaking.

The most annoying thing about this is the fact that the match and the lobby ends when the host leaves.

On PC you can choose to host a lobby of your own, but sadly there is no such option on consoles. But there are a couple of tricks you can use to become host!

Here's a guide on how to host a game in Friday the 13th on PS4/PS5:

Method 1.
Join a friend's party, and leave the party. Start searching for sessions, and you will be made host. 100%.

Method 2.
Create a party. Then press Quick Play to start searching for lobbies. Press triangle to bring up the screen to invite someone to the party. Keep this screen on for at least two minutes. While the invite screen is on you won't be put into lobbies. After at least two minutes cancel the screen. It is said that this method doesn't work 100% on PS5, but it works for me often enough, so I always use it.

While playing Friday the 13th: The Game, I always prefer being the host. There are a couple of reasons for it.

First of all everything is easier in the game when there's no delay because of (bad) ping, especially driving the car.

Then there's of course the above-mentioned fact how annoying it is when the host quits in the middle of the match.

Yes, hosts shouldn't quit. Especially not when they are killed. If you are going to quit when you are killed, don't be the host.

Yet I often end the match myself when I'm the host. So what is my excuse for these double standards?

I don't feel any guilt when I end the lobby for these reasons mentioned below. On the contrary, I'm on the right side of history.

The most common reasons I ragequit as host in Friday the 13th: The Game

No cheaters allowed

If I see you animation cancelling as Jason, I'm outta there. If as a counselor you go to a spot where Jason can't kill you, I will end the lobby. These are just a couple of examples of cheating, but you get the idea.

No teamers allowed

If there are counselors who help Jason for example by opening doors for him, blocking windows and doorways from other counselors and so on; if Jason clearly has no interest of killing some of the counselors, and instead runs together hand in hand with them, I will end their partying. If Jason has no interest of killing some counselor, I have no interest spectating that frolicking.

No assholes allowed

If there's an asshole trying to run others - especially me! - over with the car, the lobby will be history. If you are so "bored" with this game that you need to harm fellow counselors, go play some other game. I hear Dead by Daylight is nice this time of the year. And Killer Klowns will be released soon.

If you start the car and leave without picking me up when I'm waiting by the car while Jason is NOT around, I will ragequit. Especially if I was the one who repaired the car.

Some recent prime examples of assholes:

Tommy lures me to the shack with him. When Jason traps us inside the shack, Tommy dies of tummy ache (leaves the match). Ouch. So forgive me Tommy, but next time the answer will be no, unless killing Jason is the only option left.

Another Tommy refuses to repair the car, even though both parts are by the car, there are no traps and Jason is not around. Well now this Tommy is on my LIST OF ASSHOLES.

Don't keep the fuse hostage

Then there's my pet peeve, which I have also mentioned before. The thing I hate more in this game than the cheaters and teamers combined.

The phone box fuse. The most important item in the game. If the fuse has been dropped by the phone box, and some idiot takes the fuse, and runs away with it, I will ragequit. 100%.

I have a recent example of this: A Chad had found the fuse, and had gone hiding under the bed with it. After he was killed (seek and destroyed) the fuse was just hanging over the bed, and couldn't be reached/taken. I ragequit immediately.

If you are the last person alive, don't waste everyone's time by hiding. If you do so, I will either tell Jason where you are, or end the match. Does this make me the asshole? Probably.

So as you can see, if the host quits, it's not always because they have been killed. And it is not always because of Jason. It could very well be because of some asshole counselor.

Don't be that asshole.

Friday the 13th: The Game not working?

The last time I was playing my all time favorite game, Friday the 13th, everything wasn't working as intended. This happened on Playstation 4.

I kept sending party invites, but despite of getting the invites my boyfriend wasn't able to join the party. The connection simply never happened. This of course isn't the first time this party problem happens with F13.

So my boyfriend's account couldn't connect to the party, and he couldn't even join any lobbies, because the quick play search was constanly in the state of "search cooldown". All he could do was to become the host himself. This kept happening despite of closing the game and even the console many times.

And what was even more worrisome, on my boyfriend's PSN account at one point the level went back to 0, and most of the counselors weren't available to play as. This was eerily reminiscent of the times when the hackers could reset any player's level. But the last update was supposed to fix this problem permanently, right?!

And on a third Playstation account the party invites from F13 didn't come through at all.

Some might think that all this could be caused by internet problems, but this was not the case. We were in the same room, with two different Playstations, and my account kept working fine. Except the game crashed twice in a row...

So I can't even trust the game working or the party invites working anymore. All this makes me panic because Friday the 13th: The Game is the love of my life, and I want it to keep working properly until the end of 2024, as promised.

If something was to happen to make the game not work, would they even fix it anymore? I don't think so.
