Friday the 13th: The game | Short story | Bunny's Betrayal

This short story was inspired by true events in Friday the 13th: The Game.

The shrill cries of panicked campers echoed through the dense woods of Camp Crystal Lake.

Eric Lachappa sighed in relief. Surely the worst had to be over? With his superior intelligence he had managed to repair the phone box within just seconds. Now he rushed inside the cabin.

Shadows danced across the forest floor as Eric crouched in the corner of the small cabin, fumbling with an ancient rotary phone. His glasses slid down his nose as beads of sweat formed on his forehead. Jason Voorhees was somewhere out there, and every second felt like an eternity.

"Come on, come on!" Eric muttered, his shaking fingers dialing the number for the police.

Behind him, Deborah Kim, her petite frame trembling with adrenaline, was stationed near a window. She gripped a saucepan with pale knuckles, her wide eyes scanning the darkened treeline for any sign of Jason.

Eric finally managed to connect. "I need you to listen to me! Jason Voorhees has returned, and he's killing my friends! We need you. Oh my God, we need you here right now, please!"

A calm voice on the other end replied. "Officers are en route. Stay where you are."

Eric hung up and turned to Deborah, his face lighting up with a triumphant smile. "They're coming! We just have to hold out for—"

WHACK!

Eric's sentence was cut short as the flat side of Deborah's saucepan smacked against the back of his head. He crumpled to the floor with a pained groan.

"Deborah! What the—"

Before he could finish, she swung again, this time with the pan slicing the air menacingly close to his shoulder. Eric rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the strike.

"Deborah! It's me!" he yelled, clutching his arm where a shallow cut began to bleed.

She glared at him, her voice trembling with fury. "I told you not to use the phone! Jason always comes when you use the phone!"

Eric scrambled backward, kicking over a chair in the process. "But I—"

"No buts!" Deborah hissed. Her face was pale, her lips quivering, but her eyes blazed with a mix of fear and misplaced anger. "You’ve doomed us all, Eric!"

A sudden, heavy thud at the cabin door silenced them both. Deborah froze, her saucepan raised defensively, while Eric whimpered on the floor. The door groaned under the pressure of a brutal force outside.

"He's here," Deborah whispered, her face draining of all color.

The door burst open with an explosion of splinters, revealing Jason Voorhees, his hulking frame silhouetted by the moonlight. His mask tilted as if assessing his prey.

Eric clambered to his feet, the fear in his eyes replaced by a spark of determination. "Deborah, I was trying to help!" he snapped before grabbing a nearby fire poker.

Deborah's resolve faltered as Jason lunged forward, his machete raised high. In a moment of clarity, she realized her mistake.

"Eric—"

But there was no time for apologies. Eric pushed her out of the way and swung the poker with all his might, striking Jason's arm. The killer barely flinched. Jason grabbed Eric by the neck, lifting him effortlessly.

Deborah screamed, frozen in place as Eric was slammed against the wall, his glasses shattering on impact. He managed to choke out, "Run, Deborah!"

Her feet finally obeyed, and she bolted out of the cabin, leaving Eric behind to face the wrath of Jason.

As she sprinted through the forest, guilt clawed at her chest. She hadn't thanked him—really thanked him—for calling the police. But she had no time to turn back now.

In the distance, sirens wailed, growing louder with every second. Help was coming.

But for Eric, it wouldn’t arrive in time.

Friday the 13th: The Game's last Halloween

This post contains affiliate links.

Halloween month is here, and so is the last chance to play Friday the 13th: The Game during it. So it's time to put those Halloween costumes on your counselors, and go to the lake to die. And that's supposed to be fun?

But Chad of course has to freeze in his speedo. It would be a sacrilege to have Chad wear something else than the speedo. Just like it would be a sacrilege to have Deb wear something else than the bunny outfit.

I'm forever gonna be bitter that we never got Victoria's Halloween outfit.

Halloween costume ideas

I haven't been able to find a real life version of Deb's bunny costume. They are all either too tight-fitting or too heavily built. I want something from in between.

Earlier this year I saw a very nice skeleton dress for sale. It looked just like AJ's skeleton costume, just in dress form, which I would prefer.

But of course this Halloween, if I had money and if I were going to a Halloween party, my choice of costume would be my favorite game character of all time, Claire Redfield. This particular costume happens to be real nice, affordable and according to the reviews seems to be of good quality.

Jason Voorhees costumes

For some reason some people want to dress up as serial killers for Halloween, I don't understand why. How could anyone be a "fan" of a killer?

Lately I have also run into too many F13 players who only play as Jason. Who leave the match when they are not chosen to be Jason. This is the worst when that said player happens to be the host. If you only want to play as Jason never be the host.

How to avoid becoming the host? Don't let the search go beyond one minute. The longer the search for sessions goes on, the more likely you are to become the host.

The true horror of Halloween: Lachappa

This (last) Halloween I'm gonna play only as Lachappa (again). There's nothing more scary than playing as the slowest and most staminaless counselor. Lachappa's Andre the Giant costume is the best, and his wiggly ass always manages to make me smile.

So for the next three months I'm gonna play Friday the 13th: The Game every day, and as much as I can. I don't know how much Friday my body will be able to tolerate, playing it is so stressful for me. It also makes me angry because too many other players are so stupid. Multiplayer games simply are not for me.

But what comes after Friday dies? Nothing.

An A to Z guide to Friday 13th: The Game

I get commissions for purchases made through the links in this post, at no cost to you.

Why? Because I feel like it.

Adam Palomino.

Adam is one of my favorite counselors. He's good at repairing, and he's even one of the best choices for removing Jason's mask. In many ways Adam and Fox are similar counselors, both have good repair and strength.

Baseball bat.

For many players this is their favorite weapon in the game because it almost always stuns, but it doesn't make much damage to Jason's mask. My favorite weapon is the axe, it both stuns and does damage.

Crystal Lake.

The infamous camping grounds, where danger always lurks. Did you know that there even are Crystal Lake Tours in New Jersey?

Deborah, Kim.

One of the repairing counselors. Adorable in her bunny costume. If you don't escape early, she is difficult to survive as.

Ending.

Friday the 13th: The Game is coming to an end on December 31st, 2024. After that you won't be able to play it.

Fox.

One of the rare counselors based on a character from the movies. Out of all the female counselors, she has the best strength, for removing Jason's mask. And like I said, she's good for repairing too.

Glitches.

F13 is notoriously full of them. Remember the times when counselors were able to go to the roof of Packanack lodge by using traps? So Jason couldn't reach them? But then a way was discovered for Jason to go to the roof as well. It required Jason to be in rage mode. And how about the time when Jason was able to destroy the cars by throwing knives? Just to name a couple.

Higgins Haven.

On this map you can escape with the car via the boat exit! Yes, I have seen some streamers do it, but have never been able to do it myself. Also still to this day, Jason can shift himself to the roof of one of the cabins. Good place to hide from a kill squad?

Ice cold.

One of the perks in the game. With the final update to the game, which gave everyone the best perks, this one was among the removed ones. It made you less fearful of your dead team mates' bodies. Did anyone ever use it? To be fair, the rare times I've gotten jump scares in this game is because the counselors are so startled by the bodies.

Jason, Voorhees.

The man, the  myth, the legend. A serial killer. For some reason he seems to have fans. They must be psychopaths.

Kensington, Chad.

Famous for his speed and speedo. Also you should know that Chad is a dick, and a momma's boy. He's afraid of even his own shadow. By the way, if you play as Chad and wear something else than the speedo, you are doing it wrong.

Lachappa, Eric JR.

Some people paid to be in the game, Lachappa is one of them. He's good at repairing, but his stamina is the worst in the game. Therefore he's the most difficult counselor to play as.

Mitch Floyd.

According to a conspiracy theory Mitch is just a Kenny with a beard. And is Mitch really "a kid", as he says when he calls the cops? How old is he?

New Game.

A new Friday the 13th game is in the works, but it probably won't be a multiplayer.

Offline play.

You can play only as Jason offline, against bots. There is no AI Jason to go against as a counselor. And the counselor bots are... extremely stupid, to put it mildly.

Packanack.

One of the locations/maps in the movies, and the game. On Packanack I prefer trying the boat escape. And die trying...

Quiet.

A default emote for all the counselors. I don't think I've ever seen anyone use it.

Riedell, Kenny. The average guy, he's not good at anything. Usually the first to die, because of South Park of course. In my opinion he's the best looking male counselor.

Savini Jason.

Many people would be willing to pay a lot of money to get Savini Jason now, but he was a pre order bonus. At some point Savini was also sold for a brief time by accident, was it on Xbox?

Tommy Jarvis.

Special counselor right from the movies. Tommy is needed if you are gonna try to kill Jason. He has the best stats, and a shotgun with just one bullet. Better use it well...

Ultimate slasher edition

It has all the released content for the game, including DLCs.

Victoria Sterling.

The blonde counselor is, according to some, the "Karen" of the game. Personally I love her looks. She also has surprisingly good stamina, 7/10.

Wilson, Brandon.

Also known as Buggzy. The best counselor for mask removal, right after Tommy of course. So find a machete, and seek Jason. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

X

We never got Jason X. The lawsuit ruined everything for this game.

Happy Valentine's Day from Jason Voorhees!

F13 Jason Voorhees Valentine's day card

I for one will be celebrating this Friday the 13th: The Game's last Valentine's day by playing it, hopefully for at least 5-6 hours. I bet it won't be as romantic as I'm hoping for though...

Maybe I'll see you at the Lake? Please don't run me over... And please don't hold hands with Jason, eww.

You think that it's not possible to celebrate Valentine's day and other occasions in a game, let alone in Friday? You may be right, but I have developed a stupid and pathetic system.

I'm trying to make most of it with the little resources we have, to make special days and holidays special in this game. I have been doing this for years.

On Valentine's day I play only with counselors who have pink clothes. Cop Kenny and Victoria, who is one of my favorite counserors. Because isn't pink the color of love and Valentine's day? Some might say that it's red, but I hate red.

In March is endometriosis awareness month, and it has been my tradition for years to play then only as counselors with yellow costumes. Personally I even hate yellow color, but it happens to be the color of endometriosis awareness. During March there's even a day to wear yellow for endometriosis. I don't own yellow clothes, so I'm settling for those on F13.

And then at Easter I'm gonna play only as the Easter bunny, ie. bunny Deb. I used to main her, but then I played as random counselors and realized how difficult it is to play as her. So now I only play as her at Easter. I think it's sacrilege to play as Deborah Kim using any other of her clothes than the bunny outfit...

bunny Deb

Likewise it should be against the law to play as Chad wearing any other clothes than the speedo...

This is AI's view of speedo Chad...

While playing with AI image generators I have learned that AI has dirty mind. In one image a man had his hand inside another man's pants. I had NOT told AI to do that. I was like WTF, AI?

Happy Valentine's day! You can find creative ways to celebrate it. Even alone. And even in Friday the 13th: The Game, like I do!

You maybe guessed it by now, but some images in this blog post were made by AI.
