How to play as a counselor in offline mode in Friday the 13th: The Game?
For years players have wished for it, and someone finally delivered.
Now there's a new mod where you can play in offline bots as a counselor against AI Jason in Friday the 13th: The Game.
In this mod, when you play against bot Jason you aren't the only counselor, the other counselors are bots. Which is worse, who wins: bot Jason or bot counselors? Bot counselors are notorious for their stupidity.
Bot Jason plays like a newbie, he can't even use shift. He often gets stuck or keeps running against an obstacle or stops to calculate what is the best route to the counselor.
So it seems that playing against AI Jason is the easy mode. And that't exactly what I need!
You should check out this gameplay video which demonstrates many features about this new AI Jason mod.
I have to say that haven't tested this new mod myself yet.
This short story was inspired by true events in Friday the 13th: The Game.
Kenny who wasted his stamina
It was a late September evening when Kenny Riedell found himself back at the Crystal Lake camp, surrounded by an eerie silence. The air felt cold and damp, as if the forest itself was breathing down his neck. This was his third time at the camp, and even though he knew the dangers, something inside him drew him back time and time again.
He took a deep breath. The tension condensed in his chest. Kenny wasn't the bravest guy, but his determination to survive was strong. Then, suddenly, there was a crackling sound on the radio.
"Jason is here. He's killing us one by one. Be careful."
Cold shivers ran down Kenny's spine, and he felt adrenaline shoot through his veins like a knife edge. He knew what lay ahead. Jason Voorhees, the masked killer, would spare no one. This was no joke.
Kenny felt his heart begin to pound, and he quickly glanced around. He was alone. The other campers had dispersed, and the only sounds in the distance were the hum of the wind and the occasional rabble of a hare in the undergrowth. He took a step forward, then another, walking silently in the darkness. He had learned from his mistakes – this time he wasn't going to run around aimlessly and waste his energy.
Or had he learned? He heard footsteps behind him, heavy and leisurely, all too familiar to those who had ever run from Jason. Kenny glanced over his shoulder and caught a glimpse of a motionless figure standing only a few feet away. Jason.
Kenny didn't have time to think. Instinctively, he broke into a run, his legs leaping faster than he had thought they could. Every step felt like hitting the ground like a hammer blow, but panic drove him forward. However, he knew deep down that he couldn't keep running forever. And just as his legs were starting to feel heavy, he tripped. Kenny fell, crumpled to the ground, and felt pain shoot through his back.
"Keep calm!" he mumbled breathlessly to himself, trying to keep the panic from rising in his throat. He stood up and glanced around. Jason was out of sight, but his heart was still beating like a warning bell. He knew the murderer was not far away.
He decided to run towards the old barn, where he remembered one of the campers had gone to look for weapons. Kenny took off running again, hoping to find help or at least a place to hide.
But then it happened. His legs slowed, his breathing became heavier. He had run out of stamina.
"No, not now!" Kenny thought in horror, but his body wouldn't obey. He had run too long, too fast. The legs felt like lead and the lungs burned. He tried to blink over his shoulder but couldn't see anyone – it didn't make him any safer.
As he lumbered forward slowly as if in a dream, there was a rustling of leaves behind him. Jason approached. Kenny knew that. Every nerve fiber in his body told him he was coming. He tried to force himself to run once more, but his legs would no longer obey.
Cold steel touched his shoulder and Kenny turned slowly. There he stood—Jason, mask glistening in the night, bloody machete in hand. He raised his weapon and Kenny felt time stop.
"I could have escaped", Kenny thought. "If I hadn't wasted my stamina…"
Halloween month is here, and so is the last chance to play Friday the 13th: The Game during it. So it's time to put those Halloween costumes on your counselors, and go to the lake to die. And that's supposed to be fun?
But Chad of course has to freeze in his speedo. It would be a sacrilege to have Chad wear something else than the speedo. Just like it would be a sacrilege to have Deb wear something else than the bunny outfit.
I'm forever gonna be bitter that we never got Victoria's Halloween outfit.
I haven't been able to find a real life version of Deb's bunny costume. They are all either too tight-fitting or too heavily built. I want something from in between.
Earlier this year I saw a very nice skeleton dress for sale. It looked just like AJ's skeleton costume, just in dress form, which I would prefer.
But of course this Halloween, if I had money and if I were going to a Halloween party, my choice of costume would be my favorite game character of all time, Claire Redfield. This particular costume happens to be real nice, affordable and according to the reviews seems to be of good quality.
For some reason some people want to dress up as serial killers for Halloween, I don't understand why. How could anyone be a "fan" of a killer?
Lately I have also run into too many F13 players who only play as Jason. Who leave the match when they are not chosen to be Jason. This is the worst when that said player happens to be the host. If you only want to play as Jason never be the host.
How to avoid becoming the host? Don't let the search go beyond one minute. The longer the search for sessions goes on, the more likely you are to become the host.
The true horror of Halloween: Lachappa
This (last) Halloween I'm gonna play only as Lachappa (again). There's nothing more scary than playing as the slowest and most staminaless counselor. Lachappa's Andre the Giant costume is the best, and his wiggly ass always manages to make me smile.
So for the next three months I'm gonna play Friday the 13th: The Game every day, and as much as I can. I don't know how much Friday my body will be able to tolerate, playing it is so stressful for me. It also makes me angry because too many other players are so stupid. Multiplayer games simply are not for me.
I get commissions for purchases made through the links in this post, at no cost to you.
So this is what it feels like when doves cry! (The Simpsons)
Some players keep killing Jasons regularly in Friday the 13th: The Game, but I had to wait for that miracle until I was at level 112 (of course this was before they gave everyone level 150).
I remember at least two earlier attempts. In the first one what went wrong was that I had been brainwashed in a private match to believe that Tommy can't put Jason to his knees, and also the weapon was "wrong", machete. In the second try me as Tommy and the sweater girl both stepped into Jason's traps at the same time. Dying is rarely as funny as then, and that was a smart move from Jason. He did his best in a shitty situation.
How to kill Jason
Killing Jason always needs at least two players to co-operate.
1. Jason has to lose his mask. If Jason gets enough damage during a match he will lose his mask.
2. One of the female counselors has to go to Jason's shack and take Jason's mother's sweater from there. This player is called the sweater girl.
3. Only the special counselor Tommy Jarvis can kill Jason. The weapon has to be either machete or axe. Axe is a much better option, because it's more likely to stun/put Jason to his knees.
So at first Jason must lose his mask by hitting Jason with weapons. The best weapons for this are the ones that make the most damage. And they are machete, axe and fire poker. The damage from shotguns, flare guns, fire crackers and bear traps counts too. But do remember that flares and crackers are useless when Jason is in rage mode.
Note: the weapon stats in the image might be outdated.
Some Jasons lose their mask more easily than others. Part 2 is one of the easier ones.
Counselors' strenght stat affect how much damage they make to Jason's mask. The best counselors for mask removal are Tommy Jarvis, Buggzy and Adam. From the female counselors Fox.
Then the sweater girl has to use the sweater. Then if the next hit from a weapon stuns/ puts Jason to his knees, Tommy can kill Jason.
How likely it is that Jason goes to his knees? The chance is never 100%, even with the best weapon. And what is the best weapon? The ones that are most likely to stun Jason. Like I said, axe is better than machete. But even better than axe would be for example a baseball bat. But this would require either a third person, or Tommy to switch weapons quickly, or the sweater girl to get out of the sweater animation quickly (there's a cheat for that) and then stun Jason.
My first Jason kill: video
I started this very special match by doing my trademark, ie running straight to Jason's lap. Obviously I'm in love with Jason and can't wait to feel his hands on me. Then as Tommy I kept searching for the phone box fuse (it is always an obsession for me, even after I got the repairs done for a trophy. When this happened I had escaped to the police for over 100 times, and very little by other means) and gas for the car, I think the boat had already escaped. That Adam in the video kept following me and tried to show some flash light signals, I couldn't understand why. In this gameplay video I realized that there were two players following me, so I decided to see who are they. And then a sweater girl appeared. She had big difficulties trying to give me her axe. Quite lucky that we were successful. For example that Jason lost his mask from my first hit ("show yourself"), which means he had received previous damage. Especially because Jason already had the new (shitty) rage on.
So now when I apply for jobs I can put this to the part "The best achievement of your life".
For a newbie Jason the most important thing is to choose a running Jason. That means part 2, 3, 4 or 5. If you don't know what to do and don't know how to shift, you will be in a lot of trouble as a walking Jason.
Some Jason experts say that the best Jason for a beginner player is part 3. He is generally good all around, and doesn't have any big weaknesses. And you can put that purple NES-skin on him... and we also call him the stealthy Jason, his music is so damn silent that it's often a surprise that he is even nearby.
Part 2 has the most traps, so he has the best objective control. If you play as part 2 and don't use those traps for objectives, you should probably change to a better Jason. Part 2 has a bad shift.
Part 4 has the least amount of traps, only 3. So he has the worst objective control. He also has bad shift, and pro players say that he's the worst Jason to play as. But part 4 breaks doors fast, and can run. So in the right hands he can be a terrifying force. If you play as part 4 you need to focus on not letting counselors regain their stamina. Personally I hate playing against part 4 Jason the most. Or any running Jason, for that matter...
Part 5 (Roy Burns) has the biggest amount of knives. So maybe, if you don't know how to utilize those knives yet, maybe he's not the best choice for a newbie? Or maybe he's the best for practicing throwing knives?
I haven't played much as Jason because I hate it, and I'm not good as him. So now I just focus on being a helpless counselor.
All the Jasons are so damn ugly. I especially hate the neckless part 3, ugh. So when it comes to looks I chose to play as part 5, he looks the most human. But I hate having to break doors as Jason, I'm way too lazy to do that. So these days my choice is that pathetic part 4... if I played as Jason. Which I don't.
I for one will be celebrating this Friday the 13th: The Game's last Valentine's day by playing it, hopefully for at least 5-6 hours. I bet it won't be as romantic as I'm hoping for though...
Maybe I'll see you at the Lake? Please don't run me over... And please don't hold hands with Jason, eww.
You think that it's not possible to celebrate Valentine's day and other occasions in a game, let alone in Friday? You may be right, but I have developed a stupid and pathetic system.
I'm trying to make most of it with the little resources we have, to make special days and holidays special in this game. I have been doing this for years.
On Valentine's day I play only with counselors who have pink clothes. Cop Kenny and Victoria, who is one of my favorite counserors. Because isn't pink the color of love and Valentine's day? Some might say that it's red, but I hate red.
In March is endometriosis awareness month, and it has been my tradition for years to play then only as counselors with yellow costumes. Personally I even hate yellow color, but it happens to be the color of endometriosis awareness. During March there's even a day to wear yellow for endometriosis. I don't own yellow clothes, so I'm settling for those on F13.
And then at Easter I'm gonna play only as the Easter bunny, ie. bunny Deb. I used to main her, but then I played as random counselors and realized how difficult it is to play as her. So now I only play as her at Easter. I think it's sacrilege to play as Deborah Kim using any other of her clothes than the bunny outfit...
Likewise it should be against the law to play as Chad wearing any other clothes than the speedo...
This is AI's view of speedo Chad...
While playing with AI image generators I have learned that AI has dirty mind. In one image a man had his hand inside another man's pants. I had NOT told AI to do that. I was like WTF, AI?
Happy Valentine's day! You can find creative ways to celebrate it. Even alone. And even in Friday the 13th: The Game, like I do!
You maybe guessed it by now, but some images in this blog post were made by AI.
Jason Voorhees has been decades ahead of his time by wearing a mask even before it was wise and fashionable.
Now it's your turn to protect yourself and others from the dangers of covid by wearing a respirator, N95/FFP2 or better. Covid causes heart attacks, sudden deaths and blood clots even years after its acute phase. There is no such thing as "mild" covid.
According to studies, covid damages everyone's blood vessels. Everyone's. 100%. There was a study of children. 100% had blood vessel damage. There was a study of asymptomatic covid cases. 100% had blood vessel damage.
