Can you play Friday the 13th: The Game in 2025?

This post is updated with current info/links.

Is Friday the 13th: The Game dead?

For years some people had falsely claimed that this game is dead, and now it's finally true.

Friday the 13th: The Game came to an end officially on December 31, 2024. The exact time of death was at midnight EST. The game still worked for a few minutes after that, but then all the players in public lobbies and private matches were booted to the main menu, with database login failure. And this time this error is permanent.

The game died at 7 am my time, and I was lucky enough to see the end live on Twitch streams. Back then I didn't know when the game would stop working, I only learned about the announced time afterwards. How great that someone finally told us the time, but only 4 hours before the end.

Just before the death of Friday I saw a private match. All the counselors were around a camp fire, dancing and crying. And even Jason joined their fun. It was like a memorial service, or a wake. What a great way to send off this great game.

I thought that in the end I would cry, or even have a breakdown. Luckily I had been mentally preparing myself for months, saying my goodbyes to each counselor individually. I loved too many of them.

It's been heartbreaking and bittersweet to see that I'm not alone in my sorrow. That there are many others who loved this game as much as I did.

Wonder what all the kill squads, trolls, cheaters and teamers are doing now? Probably poisoning other games.

How to play Friday the 13th: The Game in 2025?

The online portion of the game is no longer officially playable on consoles. You can only play offline bots, single player challenges and the virtual cabin. And even in these you can only use Jasons part 3 and 5.

Friday the 13th: The Game back online on PS4/PS5

EDIT

Now there's also a way to play the game on PS4/PS5!

Guide: How to play Friday The 13th: Game after shutdown on Playstation 4 & 5

After just two days the game is back online on PC and PS4/PS5! Gotta love this community!

Do note that this private server might be down occasionally, and no one knows for how long this fun will last. There has been surprisingly many players (hundreds), and full lobbies.

Friday the 13th: The Game on PC in 2025

On PC there are some ways to play online matches, to enable quick play, private matches and matchmaking.

Try these at your own risk.

Then there's also a build called "Camp Forest Green", but it seems that a cease and desist is imminent. Don't ask me how to get this version.

So despite all the goodbyes and funerals, this game was dug up from its grave and hit by lightning, and lives on! Just like Jason.

Sequel to Friday the 13th: The Game?

Some people are dreaming of a sequel or a remastered version of the game, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

But exactly how much would it cost to keep the game online? We still don't know that, and probably never will. There are people who would be willing to pay to be able to play this game.

But there always was an option, to make the game truly p2p. To make the database that still was on servers local. But of course Gun Media didn't bother to pursue this option. I mean why would they? They haven't made any money from this game for a long time, while still having to pay for it.

RIP Friday the 13th: The Game 2017-2024

Was it a fun ride? Most of the time it was frustrating and enraging. So many people say they are grateful for the great people and friends they met through this game. It seems I only met assholes... Well, like someone said: Maybe assholes like each others, and become friends?

I played Friday the 13th: The Game for 6 years and thousands of hours, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt (affiliate link), and severe hatred for mankind.

Like someone on Reddit said: "This game helped me escape reality." Especially at the start of the COVID pandemic. And during these last horrible months, after all my 3 cats died within a short period of time. Now I have to face reality again: the cats are gone, and so is Friday. And I'll never be the same again.

Rest in peace my favorite game of all time, Friday the 13th: The Game. I'll miss you forever. Life is nothing without you.

And by the way, my Youtube-channel is full of videos of my very boring Friday the 13th gameplay.

After the break there are some more images related to the end of the best game ever.

Friday the 13th: Cheating in a dead game?

I get commissions for purchases made through the links in this post, at no cost to you.

The ways of cheating in Friday the 13th: The Game are numerous, starting with many animation cancels for both Jason and the counselors.

But for quite some time there has been a cheat going around that makes the counselor invincible. I don't know the official name of this cheat, I call it super cheat.

The counselor who uses it can't be killed in any way. If Jason slashes them, they take no damage. If Jason grabs them, they instantly get free from the grab.

Other counselors can't kill these cheating counselors by running them over with the car, they are immune to the car.

These counselors also move super fast. If you see counselor white circles moving fast on the map, there's your first clue that there are cheaters in the lobby.

There was this person showcasing this super cheat on Youtube and maybe some other places, I don't remember. Then later this person started selling this cheat.

That's right, the cheaters have bought this cheat, and anyone can buy it.

At first I saw this super cheat being used by some Twitch streamer. But lately I have run into these cheaters in my own lobbies twice. On the second time there were actually two of them.

All this cheating I have seen has been on PS5.

And of course the cheaters have the excuse that somehow it is right to cheat in a dead game.

Well, like I always say: Assholes will be assholes.

Here's a gameplay video showing some features of this super cheat.

There's one simple solution to cheaters: Refuse to play with them. If you encounter these cheaters while playing as Jason, don't bother trying to kill them, it's a waste of time. Leave the lobby. If no one plays with them they can't have their fun.

Friday the 13th: The Game - PC gameplay

Friday the 13th: The Game on PC in 2024? Is there any playerbase left? Are there only hacked lobbies?

I decided to try F13 on PC for the first time ever. Some may argue that this was a crazy idea, but I wanted to experience the notorious hacked lobbies myself. After all, I had finally bought the game on Steam, because it was about to be delisted.

The first thing that happened to me was that I spawned to a match which had just 17 seconds left. Easy first achievement for first multiplayer match.

So yes, there are hacked lobbies. The server name suggested some East European involvement. As did some players in the lobby. I don't know if there even are normal lobbies anymore. You could try hosting your own lobby, but from what I hear nobody might join.

Two Jasons or more in a same match? Yes. A funny thing happened to me when I was grabbed by two Jasons at the same time.

Countless counselors in a same match? Yes. If you die you can leave the match, start searching for a new lobby and end up to the same match again. Like "hi Jason, I'm back, kill me again!"

Too many strange things going on in hacked lobbies for this simple soul to understand...

Lots of experience and x13 experience bonus. Not that it is needed anymore, with the last update to the game which gave everyone level 150 and the best perks.

Lots of loot. How many pocket knives are there in one match in hacked lobbies? I know on normal matches the answer is 3: 2 in cabins, 1 on a campsite or elsewhere outside, plus of course Tommy's knife.

And how many car keys in the same match? How many Tommy houses? I saw at least three.

At least on one occasion there was no Jason's music when he was right next to me, grabbing me and so on? No, the reason is not stalk. Jason not in rage near the end of the 20 minutes? Car is shown as if it has left when it's ready? What a missed opportunity.

Here's the full stream of my Friday the 13th the game pc gameplay. I played like shit, but the hacked lobbies were shit aswell. I also had problems with the controls, and sensitivity.

Ps. My Steam name "ladyripuli" means "lady diarrhea" in Finnish... maybe I should be ashamed?

Friday the 13th the game: Tips as counselors

These are some common mistakes made by the counselors in Friday the 13th: The Game.

If you find the phone box fuse it should be your top priority to try to find the phone house. If this does not interest you, drop the fuse. Don't keep the fuse hostage.

If the fuse has been dropped by the phone box, don't take it and run away elsewhere with it. By doing so you'll probably doom every counselor in the lobby to die.

This is my pet peeve in the game. In my opinion the fuse is the most important item in the game. I rarely rage quit as host, but forementioned behaviour might trigger me to do so.

Many players don't seem to know that once Jason hits rage mode, flare guns and fire crackers become useless. They don't stun Jason anymore. If you try to use them on a Jason who's in rage you are likely to die. When Jason is in rage he can only be stunned by shotgun or mask removal.

Never lock one hit doors. What are one hit doors? These are doors which Jason can break in one hit, whether they are locked or not. There are one hit doors for example on Packanack and Higgins Haven main lodges. If you lock those doors, a counselor might die because of you. If Jason is chasing them and they are in a hurry, a locked door might mean the difference between life and death. How many times I have died because idiots lock one hit doors...

And never ever place traps behind these one hit doors! And never put traps behind unbarricaded doors. In general, be very careful with trap usage. They are always more likely hurt counselors than Jason. Unless you are an asshole who likes to troll other counselors with traps.

If you are playing as a low repair character, and there's a counselor with better repair skill right next to you, then for God's sake drop the item and let the repair counselor repair. Repair counselors are meant to repair, that's their meaning of life!

And by the way, if you play as a repair counselor and don't repair... you might as well play as Vanessa.

If you have the car keys, pay attention to cars. At worst there could be two fully repaired cars for the whole match, without anyone starting them. What a waste. And again, because of this everyone will probably die. If you don't want to drive yourself, drop the keys, preferably near the car.

Feel free to add your own tips for the counselors in the comments.

F13 game glitches: Beyond the police exit

If you use a pocket knife too close to the police exit, this can happen. As my speedo Chad I was able to run around the police exit freely.

This Lachappa was grabbed too close to the police exit. Lachappa couldn't be controlled anymore, and he reached the end of the map.
